Do you have a budding writer living with you, or you want to encourage a young person to explore and improve their writing skills? Then this will be of great interest to you!
This creative writing club provides an opportunity for children to explore different techniques of writing fiction and non-fiction. Writing is a skill that everyone, young or old needs. Young scholars will greatly benefit from taking part in this creative writing club.
The children will:
♦ Improve their creativity and imagination through writing exercises and prompts
♦ Improve their language and vocabulary
♦ Experiment with new ideas through free writing
♦ Enjoy writing based on child-friendly themes
♦ Learn what elements make a good story and how to weave them together
♦ Gain an awareness and appreciation of different writing styles
♦ Learn how to read, discuss and give feedback on each other’s work
Please note: Classes start on the 14th of January 2017, and there is a minimum commitment of four weeks.
Venue: Edgewood College, Kayode Otitoju Street, Lekki Phase 1, Lagos
Time: Every Saturday 7 – 9 year olds from 9.30am to 11.30am
10 – 12 year olds from 11.30am to 1.30pm
Tutor: Tolulope Popoola – Writing Coach and Publisher.
Tolulope Popoola is an award winning Author, Writing Coach and Publisher. She is the founder of Accomplish PressUK, a coaching, consulting and publishing company. She has published a novel, and two collections of flash fiction stories, and has written extensively for many magazines and publications. She was given a special Award of Excellence at the 2016 Nigerian Writers’ Awards, and has recently been shortlisted for Diaspora Writer of the Year for the 2017 awards. Tolulope was second runner up at the Women In Publishing (UK) Awards 2012, for the New Venture Award for pioneering work on behalf of under-represented groups in society. She was recently named as one of the “most influential Nigerian writers under 40”. Tolulope’s first novel Nothing Comes Close was named “one of the best books of 2012” by Africa Book Club. She has also earned the nickname of “Africa’s flash fiction queen” for her unique ways with writing dramatic short stories.
